SERVICE DETAILS

Roofing & Waterproofing

WHL Projects delivers new and replacement roofing systems for commercial, industrial and public-sector buildings across the UK. We work with all major flat-, pitched- and clad-roof technologies, specifying the best system for each building’s structure, exposure and budget. Our aim is to provide a watertight, durable envelope that meets Building Regulations, manufacturer standards and client expectations for decades.

Flat-roof expertise

We install and refurbish built-up felt, single-ply, and liquid-applied membranes. Typical build-ups include vapour-control layers, tapered insulation, and three-layer bituminous or single-ply coverings. We have extensive experience with systems from Icopal, Bauder, Sika, Garland, and Alumasc, coordinating directly with technical departments to secure specification approval and warranty coverage.

Drainage design, outlet positioning and upstand detailing are verified at design stage. All works conform to BS 6229, BS 5250, and Building Regulations Part L. Warm-roof, cold-roof and inverted arrangements are selected to suit the existing substrate and performance requirements. Each installation can be issued with a 10- to 25-year manufacturer or insurance-backed guarantee following final inspection.

Pitched-roof systems

We refurbish and construct pitched roofs using natural slate, clay rosemary and concrete tiles, metal standing-seam and composite panels. Pitch angles, batten spacing and ventilation details are checked against manufacturer data sheets to ensure durability and compliance. All leadwork is completed in accordance with the Lead Sheet Association’s code of practice, and flashings are dressed to the correct code number for the exposure zone.

Where roofs adjoin masonry or façade systems, our teams coordinate junctions, gutters and eaves to maintain continuity of weathering and ventilation.

Clad- and industrial-roof solutions

For industrial and warehouse buildings we supply composite or twin-skin metal cladding, daylight-panel integration and full roof-light replacement. Systems achieve required U-values and are fully compliant with Approved Document L2 for non-domestic premises. We also undertake over-roofing and overlay schemes where replacement would interrupt business operations, providing safe, minimal-disruption upgrades.

Waterproofing and detailing

Critical junctions—parapets, upstands, service penetrations—are detailed using liquid waterproofing or pre-formed collars. We employ both hot-melt and cold-applied products depending on substrate and site constraints. Every interface is inspected by our site management and, where applicable, by the manufacturer’s technical inspector prior to sign-off.

Health, safety and environment

Roofing works demand rigorous access control and fall-prevention measures. Our operatives are trained for working at height, harness use, PASMA and IPAF. Edge protection and debris-netting are installed before works begin. All materials are lifted in compliance with LOLER 1998 and BS 7121, and hot-works permits are enforced under our fire-safety management system.

Waste bitumen and insulation are segregated for recycling wherever possible. We specify low-VOC adhesives and sustainable insulation materials to reduce environmental impact.

Technical assurance & accreditations

WHL Projects operates under ISO-aligned quality-management systems and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). Our sister company, WHL Surveying & Engineering, regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), provides structural and surveying input on roof loadings, fixings and drainage falls. Combined, these credentials ensure each roof is designed, installed and certified to the highest professional standards.
